Dr. Tabia Akintobi Appointed to Prestigious NASEM Standing Committee on Advancing Science Communication
Morehouse School of Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓÆµ (Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓÆµ) proudly celebrates the appointment of Dr. Tabia H. Akintobi, Professor and Chair of the Department of Community Health and Preventive Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓÆµ and Associate Dean for Community Engagement to the . This appointment highlights Dr. Akintobi’s ongoing leadership in bridging science,
public health and community engagement to advance balanced resources and access to
knowledge.
The Standing Committee on Advancing Science Communication convenes experts across disciplines to strengthen science communication and engagement. Through its work, the Committee aims to expand collaborations that build evidence-based practices, increase institutional and systemic support and enhance the capacity of individuals and organizations to ethically and effectively engage diverse audiences. Dr. Akintobi’s decades of experience in community-driven research and public health leadership uniquely align with the committee’s mission to ensure science benefits all communities.
A globally recognized social behavioral scientist and public health practitioner, Dr. Akintobi’s scholarship and leadership have transformed how academic institutions and communities partner to address outcome variations. Her contributions include authorship in cornerstone texts such as The Morehouse Model: How School of Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓÆµ Revolutionized Community Engagement and Health Equity as well as the CDC/NIH’s . In addition to leading the CDC-funded Prevention Research Center at Morehouse School of Ò°»¨ÉçÇøÊÓÆµ, Dr. Akintobi also serves as principal investigator on multiple national research networks focused on healthcare access optimization and translational science.
